Last Night’s Opening at The Jamieson

by Mark Wellborn

Last night, we headed over to the opening of The Jamieson, 79 condominiums in Old Town, Alexandria directly above The Westin. Despite the gray skies and intermittent rain, a couple hundred people showed up to take a look at the new units, drink some wine and be soothed by the ambient music that played on a continuous loop for most of the night.

There were a number of condos on display, and the general consensus was that the views were hard to beat.

“This is hot,” one attendee said as she looked out the window.

The open models ranged in price from $314,900 for a 713 square-foot one-bedroom/one-bath to $999,900 for a 1,941 square-foot, three-bedroom/three-bath. We overheard a number of people noting that the building did a great job staging and furnishing the model units.

“This makes me want to buy here,” a woman said standing in a one-bedroom unit that was furnished with a plush couch, a Queen-sized bed and copies of Capitol File magazine on the coffee table.

However, the real draw of The Jamieson is that condo owners will have access to many of the services offered by The Westin hotel. Maid service, valet parking and a suite for your guests are some of those amenities (for a price, of course). The building also has a swimming pool, rooftop terrace and fitness center.

It’s great to have access to services provided by The Westin, but does that mean the condo fee is higher than usual?  And are these services an optional add on?

The services are an a la carte add on and some are discounted for residents.  I believe valet parking is discounted for example if you are ever too lazy to park your own car in the garage or possibly if you have guests.
