iLive.at: A Site for Those Who Can’t Decide Where to Live

by Mark Wellborn

If you are having trouble figuring out where to live in DC, we’d like to point you in the direction of a very useful website (and no, this is not an attempt at self-promotion).

iLive.at is a site that provides a good deal of information (demographic, shopping, transportation, etc.) for specific addresses in the city. Fittingly, their motto is “where the world revolves around you.”

image

Here is how it works:

When you enter a DC address, iLive.at will give you information tailored to that location, organized into different categories. “Errands” indicates how far the nearest shopping center, post office and convenience store are, among other things. “Crime” gives you recently reported offenses in the area, and “The People” category displays charts giving different types of demographic information. There are also transportation, recreation and emergency categories, as well as a “Did You Know?” section that gives interesting facts, like how far the address is from various embassies.

If you click on any of these categories, the results will be displayed on a map to give you a visual idea of how close things are to your property.
