Huge Adams Morgan Loft Finds A Renter

2424 18th Street NW, #R2
Readers who were putting away money in the hopes of buying this expansive loft in Adams Morgan may be disappointed to find out that after two years on the market, the owner has decided to rent the home.
Over the past 18 months, UrbanTurf has taken a particular interest in 2424 18th Street NW, #R2, the larger of two massive units in a former car dealership located in the heart of Adams Morgan. The three-floor industrial space has 14-foot ceilings, two bedrooms, a private deck on the second floor, a roof deck, a garage parking space, and a living area big enough to host a party for 200 people.

Originally priced for $2.7 million back in 2008, the home has been on and off the market over the past two years with a reduced price tag each time. In April 2010, it tested the rental market with an asking price of $14,500 a month. Shortly before the home was rented last week at a $7,000 discount from its asking rent eight months ago, the list price had been reduced to just above $1 million, well under $400 a square foot.
We understand that the new tenant will move into the loft in March and has plans to use it as a live/work space.
Here are a few more photos of the property:

That sounds like a very decent rent for a place that big, considering I am paying $2,000 a month for a 700 square-foot place around the corner.
The cost of heating this place must be astronomical.
I wouldn’t want to live right on 18th Street either.
Dear Scoot- I think you’re jealous of the sick house someone else gets to live in.
Dear Emily - I think you’re just jealous of Scoot’s ribald observation. Cool place.
This one truly was “Designed to Sell.” Heh.
