Forbes: DC Has Second Best Housing Market in U.S.
By Karpov the Wrecked Train
Our friend Matt Woolsey over at Forbes magazine has compiled the list of best and worst housing markets in the country, and DC ranks second on the list only to the Big Apple.
To come up with the rankings, Matt used the Case-Schiller index and analyzed monthly and year-to-year declines to figure out where home prices were falling fastest and where those drops were picking up momentum.
From the rankings:
“It’s not a good thing for San Diego that prices from November 2008 to December 2008 fell 2.13%, but as prices declined by 2.29% from October to November, and 2.44% from September to October, the speed with which prices are falling is slowing.”
This slowing rate of decline in places like DC, Boston and Denver meant that these markets ranked higher on the list. Here are the statistics for DC:
- Prices were last this low: April 2004
- Month-to-month drop (Nov. 2008 to Dec. 2008): -2.18%
- Year-over-year drop (Dec. 2007 to Dec. 2008): -19.24%
And here is the ranked list:
