Numerous sources are reporting that construction will begin this quarter on a new 276-unit apartment project at 1345 South Capitol Street (map), the first new apartment construction in Southwest in decades.

Originally reported by Bisnow, the eight-story apartment building will break ground at some point this quarter. Southwest…The Little Quadrant That Could followed up with a more detailed report including that 12 of the units will be reserved as affordable and the building could be ready for occupancy as soon as 2013.

The new apartment news does not end there, though. TBD reports that Dittmar Company has submitted plans for Virginia Square Towers, a new 500-unit apartment complex two-building development that will be located one block from the Virginia Square Metro station. (Note: This project is still in the planning stages, so its groundbreaking and delivery dates are TBD.) And the Washington Business Journal has a rundown of details on JBG’s 474-unit Rosslyn Commons apartment project that will break ground on January 25th in Rosslyn.
