Busboys and Poets to Harlem

by Mark Wellborn

It appears that DC’s local coffeeshop/bookstore/restaurant chain Busboys and Poets has its eyes set on new territory: Harlem.

A New York-based blog called Harlem Condo Life is reporting that Busboys and Poets plans to open its first establishment outside the DC area at a new condo project in Harlem:

A sales representative at 2280 Frederick Douglass Blvd., one of the new condo buildings built from the ground up in West Harlem, made a point to say that their retail space was in contract with Busboys and Poets from Washington, D.C.

Harlem Condo Life called over to the offices of Busboys and Poets, and spoke to an individual who confirmed that there are plans to expand into Harlem, but no timeline was given.

Thanks for linking to us. Personally I had never heard of BBP until I went apt hunting with a friend recently and the name was thrown at a potential buyer. Now that I have researched it and learned more about it, it seems like a strategic fit given it’s current business model. And it looks like BBP moves into areas that have a rebirth. Some of the DC locations that BBP is at now I would have never gone to when I lived in DC in the nineties. It’s the same for Harlem now. It has been going through a Renaissance since Clinton moved his offices hear in 2000. Harlem was recently named as one of the up and coming hoods in the Big Apple by Time Out. So in my view and what I’ve learned about BBP, it’s a perfect strategic fit. Hope BBP sends out that press release soon. The developer at 2280 FDB sort of already has! -HarlemGal, founder and CEO, harlemcondolife.com
