Best Open Houses: Dupont Circle and Columbia Heights
In this week’s edition of Best Open Houses, we feature a one-bedroom condo in Dupont Circle with plenty of natural light and a parking space and a three-bedroom row house in Columbia Heights that has a rentable in-law suite.
Bright One-Bedroom in Dupont Circle With Parking

1816 New Hampshire Avenue NW, #808 (map)
There are plenty of one-bedrooms in Dupont in this price range, but we feel that this one is especially attractive given that a parking space is included in the list price. In addition, it is fairly decent-sized at 650 square feet and it has a number of windows that offer a ton of natural light for the unit and provide downtown views for the eventual owner. The open house is Sunday, March 14th from 1 to 4pm. For the full listing, click here.
Columbia Heights Three-Bedroom Row House With Rentable Unit

1518 Newton Street NW (map)
Many buyers will like the fact that this three-bedroom Victorian has not been renovated, but rather very well maintained over the years. It still has the original heart of pine and oak floors, five-panel doors and staircase. The other thing that will attract buyers is the in-law suite on the ground floor that can be rented out for $1,200 a month. The open house is Sunday, March 14th from 2 to 4pm. That Columbia Heights house is a steal. If I had the cash…
Prediction: Dupont prop with parking will sell within the week.
My agent showed me this unit—MUCH more storage than the photos would allow you to believe. California Closets, coat closet, linen closet, plenty of kitchen cabinet space, plus an extra storage unit in the basement. Very enticing for someone with a lot of stuff.
Heck, I would expect the Dupont unit to be gone within hours, unless it had a dead body in there or something. Talk about a good deal.
The building the dupont condo is in is hideous. They have thu wall A/C units. GAG
Living in Dupont, I’d hesitate to judge a book by its cover. I’ll take a sparkling updated unit in an ugly building over a “meh” unit housed behind a lovely Victorian façade. I can stomach the A/C units in exchange for the hours saved looking for a parking space!
How else does one get A/C if not through a wall? I live in the building…it’s old, and that’s how stuff was done 50 years ago. I hated it at first, but given that I can control my own temperature after having lived somewhere they determined when summer started and ended, I don’t mind.
That said, this listing is inaccurate. The management is not redoing any common areas. This is an Association, and as such we’re responsible for changes/upgrades…not management.
Also, building is not FHA approved.
