Best New Listings: Former Schoolhouse Condo, Chevy Chase Colonial, and Barracks Row Victorian
In this week’s edition of Best New Listings, we look at a two-bedroom condo in a Capitol Hill schoolhouse, a Barracks Row three-bedroom row house and a four-bedroom Chevy Chase colonial with a magazine-worthy kitchen.

Two-Bedroom Condo in a Former Schoolhouse
This 1,200 square-foot two-bedroom listing in the former Carbery School sits just north of Stanton Park in Capitol Hill. The building was converted to residences in 1987, and builders maintained the school’s huge windows (over the years, the residents have also created a pretty nice garden). The unit takes up two levels, with the bedrooms and a perch-like office area on the top floor and the living space on the lower level. UrbanTurf’s favorite features are the double-height living room and checkerboard floor in the kitchen, but the parking space is not a bad perk either.
- Full listing: 410 5th Street NE, #14 (map)
- Price: $499,000
- Bedrooms: Two
- Bathrooms: 1.5
- Square Footage: 1,203
- Listing Agent: Linda Pettie, Coldwell Banker

Four-Level Chevy Chase Colonial With a Famous Kitchen
This colonial in the Rollingwood section of Chevy Chase fits in well with its posh neighbors, and the home’s kitchen has some cachet as it was once featured in Southern Living magazine. In addition to the kitchen, the house, a block from Rock Creek Park, has a finished attic and lower level, a pretty large office that opens up to the patio, a living room, and a mud room. The family room is in a cool looking peaked-roof space above the garage, and a slate patio surrounds the house, creating a moat of lounge chairs, coffee tables and a ping pong table.
- Full listing: 3033 Rolling Rd, Chevy Chase, MD (map)
- Price: $1.245 million
- Bedrooms: Four
- Bathrooms: 4.5
- Year Built: 1939
- Listing Agent: MaryEllen Greene, Long & Foster

Capitol Hill Three-Bedroom Victorian
This renovated three-bedroom row house has a deep enough layout to fit a formal dining room and full kitchen behind the living room. The three bedrooms are comfortably sized and UrbanTurf liked the exposed brick in the kitchen, which creates a hearth-like feel. A few blocks east of Barracks Row and west of the Potomac Avenue Metro, the downside to the home may be its proximity to the Southwest Freeway.
- Full listing: 1114 I Street SE (map)
- Price: $570,000
- Bedrooms: Three
- Bathrooms: 1.5
- Year Built: 1890
- Listing Agent: Kelvin Reaves, RE/MAX Allegiance
